Hidden in the forests of Finland, this modernist masterpiece rises up above the trees whose colours are reflected in the building’s details. The secluded site provided ample fresh air, sunlight, access to nature and space to rest for those suffering with tuberculosis. Sunday 18th August.
Inside: a complete work of the Aaltos who designed every detail of this healthcare facility. The colours exude warmth in the absence of fabrics in an effort to mitigate dust. Door handles prevent long sleeves getting caught. Lights with opaque bottoms reduce glare. Plants are placed behind glass panels to minimise exposure to pollen. Functional with feeling for patients and staff alike.
